Renovations to meet seismic requirements

Burlingame Library

Burlingame temporary structureThe city of Burlingame, California suffered structural damage to many of their buildings during a recent earthquake. The city's library was one building that had to be closed for renovations to meet seismic requirements. City officials needed a temporary structure to house their entire collection of books and computer systems while the old library was under renovation. The building site, a city parking lot, provided a limited area requiring a solution that would work within the site's constraints and maximize the space available.

Burlingame selected ModSpace to provide the city with a 21,600 square foot building to serve as their temporary library facility. ModSpace coordinated delivery of the structure with city officials, made site utility connections, and provided turnkey electrical service. In only 100 days the library was open to the public.

Benefits
Flexibility of modular construction helped to maximize the site area to fulfill the city's space requirements.
• A two year lease with option to buy at the end of the lease provided the best financial option for Burlingame. The city is contemplating the purchase of the building for later use by its recreation department.
• ModSpace provided total project management, including the installation of dedicated computer electrical service to guard against interference from standard appliances.
• Modular mobility and flexibility will enable the city to relocate the structure to solve other city space problems as needed.
